Ever wonder how we take a tree and turn it into a table or a crib board? These are the basic steps we take to ensure that we create maximum quality slabs and products for our customers.

Step 1: Milling

After the logs are picked up and taken to the mill site, they are "slabbed" to proper thickness. Whether it is our chainsaw or band saw unit doing the work, both are dialed in for precise measurements. With our setups being in excess of 20+ feet in length, and over 4 feet in width, we are able to cut the perfect piece for your needs.

Step 2: Kiln drying

Once enough pieces have been milled, they are placed in our wood kiln. The kiln ensures that our lumber is dried to the proper moisture content, allowing it to be used in your home without concerns about excess warping, cracking, and shrinking.

Step 3: Finishing

When the slabs are removed from the kiln, they are ready for use. During the kiln drying process, 'imperfections' may arise in our large slabs. We view these as opportunities and can seamlessly turn them into distinctive features of the piece. Whether it's a crack held together by bow ties or simply by filling the area with epoxy.

Planing/Surfacing

We can run all slabs that are 24" and under in width through our industrial thickness planer. This saves you the headache of trying to flatten your own pieces before proceeding with your project. Slabs over 24" in width can also be flattened using our router.

Skidsteer Service

Lost River Timber also provides general skidsteer services. This includes: site prep, piles, demolition, and trenching.
